July 2010 News Letter
Dear Mission Supporters and Friends,
The month of June went by so fast. It was full of a lot of
exciting things for missions that we want to share with you. We just
got home from Acuna, Mexico today and have lots of testimonies
that you will enjoy hearing about. We had a wonderful team of 17
people from North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas (Darey, Karen,
Jamie, Caroline, Squirrel, Matthew, Krystina, Kenyatta, Malcolm, Kenya, Kaiya,
Anita, Lisa, Ronnie, Missy, Pastor Gary and Jean (Bible School Director from
Torreon, Mexico).
Nursing Home Ministry in Acuna, Mexico:
There are
only 2 Nursing Homes in all of Acuna, Mexico. We thank God
that we are able to help with both of them. One is run by the
government and one is privately owned. This time we were so excited
that the Nursing Home that is sponsored by the government was doing so
good. In March, it had a lot of staff changes and we were not sure
how good the seniors would be taken care of, but we were blessed when we walked
in. It was really clean and they had put air conditioning in the
place. Before in the summer months, it was almost unbearable for the
elderly people living there with the heat and all the bugs. However,
this time the people had so much more life about them. Our pastor’s wife,
Georgia collected medicine, pillows, sheets and adult diapers for us to take to
them for this trip. The new lady over the Nursing Home was so
blessed again by all the things we bought them. Plus we send money every month
to our main pastor, Oscar Olguin to help buy food, cleaning supplies or
whatever they have need of and he takes care of helping them. We
sang, talked and prayed with them. One of the men living there is
over 80 year’s old and was a pastor most of his life. In the last
few years he lost his eye sight. It was awesome what took
place. All of a sudden I saw Pastor Gary and a few of the other team
members lift him up from his seat and began commanding him “In the Name of
Jesus” to see. Pastor Gary told him, you are not going to finish
your race not being able to see, but healed and able to read your Bible. After
a few minutes, Pastor Gary asked “can you see” and he looked up and said, “Yes,
I can see him (talking about Pastor Oscar who was over there helping
him)”. What a tremendous Miracle!!
Then we went to the privately
owned Nursing Home:
This time
it was really heart breaking to see how different and all the difficulties they
were having at this Nursing Home. They only have two workers with 18
seniors. When I started talking to the lady that takes care of the place, she
was so tired and sad looking. She told me that it was only her and
her brother taking care of everything and she was worn out from all the
work. Their washing machine was broken, so their clothes were piled
up everywhere and it really smelled bad. Plus, it was so Hot in there
because they do not have air conditioning. So our team got together
and took up an offering and we bought a new washing machine, 8 fans, cleaning
supplies and washing powders. Plus we gave them medicine, new
pillows, sheets and adult diapers that we brought down that Georgia had
collected. We were also able to bless them with new sandals or flip
flops that were given to us by Farrell Burton (Project 127-Haiti). He
gave us almost 4000 pairs for us to take to Mexico and Nicaragua. We
took about 500 pairs this time to Mexico. The seniors loved
them because their feet were so swollen from the heat, they were able to wear
them without their feet hurting. When we brought all the things that we had
bought them back the next day, the lady’s whole countenance changed. Plus
we began to pray for strength for her and her brother. Jean, our Bible School Director
told her that God had seen her labors of Love and He would send her
help. We also told her that Pastor Oscar and his church would be coming to
help more and just to let him know what we could do to be more of a blessing to
her and the seniors. She began to cry and thank God for this
wonderful time we had together with them. We gave her more of Andrew
Wommack’s books in Spanish. She told me she read the book, “Holy
Spirit” and she loved it. The awesome thing about this is, she is
Catholic, but a believer. Our plans for our next trip to Mexico is
to paint the place, do some repairs and help organize it better. We
encouraged our Mexican pastors to take teams there to help on a regular basis,
so these precious people would be treated with dignity in their latter
years. One of the men at the Nursing Home was 102 years old. It
was a great joy to sit and talk with him. We are grateful to the
ones that collected items to be a blessing to so many needy people.
Youth
Rally in Acuna, Mexico:
We were
able to hold a Youth Rally at Pastor Oscar’s church with all the other churches
we work with in Acuna, Mexico. We had around 100 young
people at this event. We started off playing games and getting them
to laugh. Then some of the young ladies from our team danced. They
did a great job. Then Malcolm from Master’s Ministries, FCC in S.C.
spoke to the youth and encouraged them that God had great plans for their
future. After that, our youth pastor from Freedom ChristianCenter,
Matthew and Jamie, our full time missionary with our team, preached the Word to
them. Matthew did a great job ministering about the Grace of God. He
told them we are no longer under the Old Testament Law but under Grace because
of the finished work of Jesus; that all their sins past, present and future are
forgiven forever. He had 3 youth come forward; one represented the
perfect lamb, one was the OT High Priest and the other one was the person
needing their sins forgiven for one year under the OT Law. He
explained to them how the person needing their sins forgiven had to keep their
hands on the perfect lamb to receive perfection from the perfect sacrifice and
how the lamb had to receive all the imperfection from the person needing
forgiveness under the OT Law. Their sins were forgiven for one year
but the person was still guilty and walked in condemnation. However,
in the NT, when the perfect Lamb of God (Jesus) took our sins and paid the
price, it was forever and all our guilt and condemnation was nailed to the
cross. It was POWERFUL!! They began to shout and clap
like crazy. I believe for many of them, this was the first time to
receive this revelation of their sins, guilt and condemnation being completely
paid for by Jesus FOREVER. We prayed for a lot of them at the
end. We blessed all the different Youth Pastors with books from
Andrew Wommack and Pastor Dean Melton in Spanish. We believe God for
them to teach and walk in the Love and Grace of Jesus more; as they read these
books it will come alive to them.
Prison,
Street and Home Ministry in Acuna, Mexico:
We thank
God we were able to go to the Prison and minister to about 125 men. Many
of them received Jesus and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We also
blessed them with care bags of shampoo, soap, socks, books, ball caps and a
toothbrush. The men always look forward to our team coming. We
also were able to do about 10 street ministries in the different communities
during our trip. We did dramas, puppets, face painting, preached the
Word, prayed for salvation and the sick. It was powerful. We prayed
for a lot of people with Cancer, high blood pressure, back problems, etc. We
saw God do great MIRACLES!! Also our group loved passing out the toy
gift bags made by our team at home in Charlotte and hundreds of bags of
groceries that we made up with our team inMexico. We thank God for Maranatha Church in Texas,
Ronnie and Missy’s church for the awesome donation of beans, rice and clothes
they brought down to give out with us. We are so grateful for your
heart of giving to help us be a blessing to so many needy people. It
was great to be able to visit and spend some time at different homes that we
have helped to build. We Praise God they were able to repair the
foundation on the home we built for Pastor Oscar’s son after it was damaged by
the flood last month. It took them about 2 weeks to lift the
foundation and put braces on the side wall, so it will not move again. Plus
they had to tear the kitchen floor out to fix the pipes and the floor that was
messed up. They had to fix of a lot of the walls that cracked from
the flood too. They did a great job getting it ready by the time we
got there. They showed me pictures of all the damaged it looked like before
they fixed it. It was amazing how it looks now. We were
able to fix it all for about $1000.00. We appreciate some of the
partners that sent in offerings to help us get their home back in order. Plus
we want to thank Robin, one of our dear Jewish friends that blessed us with
boxes full of beautiful new complete bedding sets for Pastor Oscar and his
family. Also, our daughter Lisa, her church Freedom Christian Center
in Gastonia, NC, we appreciate so much the beautiful bed sets/bathrooms sets
and offerings for several families in Acuna, Mexico that ya’ll helped
too. God is so good to provide all these wonderful people to do this
work for HIM together. It is too big for us to do it without your love,
prayers and help!! Thank God for the awesome 8 days we had in Acuna, Mexico.
Update
on Birthday Care box Container sent to Nicaragua:
We were
able to ship the 43ft. container to Nicaragua in June full of
Birthday care boxes for the school children you sponsor; plus hundreds of
chairs, 15 big dry erase boards for our schools, desk, school supplies, new
shoes/flip flops, clothes and more. This time, thanks to Robin, we
were able to ship down about 50 care boxes for our teachers, leaders and new
homes full of new bathroom sets, bed sets and kitchen sets. We have
never been able to give out anything this nice to them before. Everything
matched from the towels to the rugs to the sheets. It was AMAZING to
receive all these beautiful items to bless our people. It was worth
thousands of dollars. I was overwhelmed when I saw it all. We
can not wait for the container to be released and to be able to give it out in
August during our next trip to Nicaragua. We will have big
Birthday parties again this year at every school and bless every child with a
birthday care box in August. We can never say thank you enough for
the great outpouring of care boxes or the money to make them this time from
you. It is such an honor that God has put people in our lives like
you all. Your continual faithfulness to help in every area of our
missions means the world to us.
Update on School and Home Construction in Nicaragua:
We are so
excited to let you know that we received $5000.00 to build one of our
classrooms upstairs at our Managua School. We have 2 more
classrooms to build to complete the upstairs. This classroom will be
built to Honor the Memory of Rebecca Thompson the granddaughter of Russ and
Susie. This is a great privilege for us to be able to do this
because we love this family so much!!! We are so happy to report we have
completed the cement on our entire property at our Ometepe School. Praise
God, no more DIRT everywhere!! Now we are going to start on the new
playground at the Ometepe School this week. The cost
will be around $2000.00 for this project. It will be so nice for the
children. Also, we just finished the last two homes in Las Maderas
and will be starting on one of the 3 homes that we received money for at the
GTS in Chicago. We will tell you more about it next
month. We love seeing God’s people taking Romans 12:10 to
heart “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in Honor
preferring one another”. We are doing so much for God because of
wonderful partners like you that prefer others over yourself!!!
New
Mission Warehouse Building in Charlotte, NC:
We were
hoping to be able to tell you that our building is going up, but it has not
happened yet. We do have some good news. We have received
4 of the 7 permits now from the city to get started and have taken in almost
$100,000.00 for the building. We still believe God for the building
to be ready by our Annual Camp Meeting in September with Andrew. Please
just keep praying and believing God with us. We need this building
so bad!! We love you all DEARLY!!!
